Comic Book
To address the need for education about cervical cancer and the importance of HPV vaccination, GO created the “Doctor Obi Cancer Chronicles” comic book for adolescents and their families to learn about the importance of cervical cancer prevention
About the GO Comic Book
The Dr. Obi Cancer Chronicles comic book series was created to educate adolescents in LMICs about cancer prevention and early detection. In collaboration with an international group of comic artists, oncologists, storytelling experts, Global Oncology developed and released Dr. Obi Cancer Chronicles, Vol. 1 in 2021. This first volume teaches about cervical cancer and the HPV vaccine through striking visual language that is accessible for all ages.
Originally developed for Nigerian youth, the GO Comic Book has been used for cervical cancer and HPV vaccine education across all 36 states in Nigeria and was included in national sensitization efforts for the nation-wide HPV vaccine introduction in 2023.
GO dedicated to developing novel, effective, and culturally-competent education materials for communities around the world. If you are interested in adapting the GO comic book for your community, please reach out to use at info@globalonc.org.

As part of our comic book materials, GO also developed an Animatic Video based on the Dr. Obi Volume 1 comic book, intended to reach low-literacy populations who may not be able to access the Comic Book.

In 2025, Global Oncology developed an additional version of the comic book in collaboration with the Clinton Health Access Initiative and Nigeria-based Panaramic Comics to integrate cervical cancer screening for adults into this volume of the comic book.
This project is currently being piloted in Nigeria in partnership with the Nigerian government.

The Dr. Obi comic book was originally developed for a Nigerian audience, but is intended to be adaptable to youth across the world.
We are currently developing additional adaptations of the GO comic book for other country contexts including Kenya, Belize, and more.

Comic books are novel tools for health education in low resource settings. GO is preparing to publish research on how comic books can be used to increase knowledge and HPV vaccination rates in various settings.
